Just a few meters from Via Dante and next to the old Palazzo del Carmagnola is the Piccolo Teatro that was founded in 1947 by Paolo Grassi and Giorgio Strehler. The aim was not to have a theatre as a place for recreation for the privileged classes but to bring the theatre to the masses as a cultural medium and a public service.

This policy is still in effect as demonstrated by its low prices and its inexpensive season tickets, special arrangements with trade unions, business management, schools and cultural organizations. The Piccolo Teatro is at 2 Via Rovello.
