This is the rest home for musicians that Giuseppe Verdi ordered built. The architectural plan was the idea of Arrigo Boito: in a crypt in the center of the garden (decorated with allegorical mosaics that Lodovico Pogliaghi designed) is Giuseppe Verdi and his second wife, Giuseppma Strepponi.
On the floor above is a museum dedicated to Verdi which contains works by Boldini, Gemito, Palizzi, Michetti, and Morelli. In the square in front of the building is a monument to Verdi by Enrico Butti.
