Styles called “floreale” and “Liberty” were fashionable at the beginning of 20th century. They were typified by heavy ornamentation of figures, columns, flowers and fruit in stone or terracotta.
They were interwined with ribbons in the same materials; these decorations framed windows and entrance doors. A prototype of these styles is the Palazzo Castiglioni (today the headquarters of the Umone Commercio-Turismo) designed by the architect, Sommaruga and dated 1903.
