Styles called “floreale” and “Liberty” were fashionable at the beginning of 20th century. They were typified by heavy ornamentation of figures, columns, flowers and fruit in stone or terracotta.

They were interwined with ribbons in the same materials; these decorations framed windows and entrance doors. A prototype of these styles is the Palazzo Castiglioni (today the headquarters of the Umone Commercio-Turismo) designed by the architect, Sommaruga and dated 1903.

The entrance hall and the huge staircase are theatrically spectacular Other “Liberty” edifices in Milan are at 32 Corso Monforte, 28 Via Senato, 48 Via Buonarroti. Via Malpighi, 11 Via Bellini, 8 Via Cappuccim. In addition to modeled decorations some of these building have pictorial motifs as on the building on Via Malpighi and at 21 Via Mozart or polychrome motifs as at 3 Via Ausonio.
